The Modern is Tony Dixon’s aluminum-bodied whistle, paired with the same polymer head used across the rest of the line. Thicker walls than a traditional thin-walled whistle give it a slightly fuller, more solid-sounding tone, a departure from the thin-walled style that makers like the late Bernard Overton helped popularize in heavier-walled aluminum construction.
The head joint is tuneable. The line runs from high D and C through alto Bb, A, and G, down to a low D, all sharing the same aluminum body and voice.
Tony Dixon has been making flutes and whistles by hand from a family workshop in Devon since 1997.
