The Wavelength Duo captures both direct string vibration and ambient room character simultaneously, delivering a dual-source signal that separates into independent tracks for mixing. This hybrid design excels in studio and live recording scenarios, allowing independent control over piezo and condenser elements without the complexity of traditional multi-pickup systems.
Dual-Source Recording Architecture
The system pairs an under-saddle piezoelectric transducer with an omnidirectional condenser microphone mounted in a shock-absorbing visco-elastic polymer cradle. The piezo element delivers consistent, articulate string-to-string tracking for punch and clarity in the mix, while the mic captures the instrument’s natural resonance and room ambience independently, with full copper shielding minimizing noise and interference in the signal chain.
Preamp & Signal Control
Two AA batteries power an 18-volt preamp delivering twice the dynamic range of standard 9-volt systems, preserving transient detail and handling dynamic playing without compression artifacts. Dual lightweight, low-profile knobs control master volume and microphone volume independently during recording sessions, while stereo wiring allows tip/ring separation of pickup and mic signals for maximum multitrack mixing flexibility and independent processing.
