Tight 2000 Studio Album Takes More Serious Musical Turns, Includes Strings and Abundant Textures
Indeed, further proof that Green Day can do much more than three-chord punk, the passionate and hope-filled 2000 release Warningserves as the perfect ice breaker for the band’s future endeavors intomore complex and conceptual pop. Featuring the hit songs “Minority,” “Warning” and “Waiting,”and several string arrangements, the release boasts the raw power, freedom and excitement of the band’s early days while functioning as theperfect transition into the more ambitious material that wouldsubsequently propel the band to new commercial heights. Single regularweight LP pressed at Pallas, Diepolz Germany in a Stoughton direct toboard jacket.
Rolling Stone had it right when writer Nick Catucci noted that, on Warning, Green Day “fully focus on the textures that have always differentiated its sturdy grooves and simple melodies. Billie Joe Armstrong’s voice, now as throaty as it’s always been whiny, leads a dozen speedy, neatly packaged reinterpretations of pop-rock history, from the Beatles to Creedence Clearwater Revival to the Ramones themselves.”
